The University of Fiji, in partnership with MV Solar Fiji Limited, will supply solar power to the Koroinasolo Village School in Bua for free, says UniFiji’s executive director finance Ravineet Sami.

This is a second project for the Department of Science, under the School of Science and Technology.

Mr Sami said when he went to do the official launching of the solar power project for Coboi Primary School the Head Teacher of Koroinasolo School, Tomasi Uluiviti, had approached him for a similar assistance.

“Last Thursday I received an official request to this effect and I immediately contacted UniFiji’s consorting partners for support, and given the continued support and commitment of the consorting partners another successful solar power project will be conceivable which will really assist the students and staff,” Mr Sami said.

Koroinasolo Village School is located on a hill facing the beautiful Rukuruku Bay opposite the famous Monkey Face Passage.

It is about 17 kilometres from the Labasa–Nabouwalu Highway through Vatubogi Primary School.

He said the solar school was a great initiative and perfectly aligned with local, national and international goals of humanity.

“The estimated cost of supply of solar power equipment and accessories, travel and installation and other teaching and learning essential comprising five sets of computers, a printer, solar bulbs, stationeries, books and sports equipment, is approximately $35,000,” he said.

“I confirm once again that this initiative is a result of our academic industry collaboration from last year and the university is appreciative of MV Solar Fiji Ltd’s willingness to come on board to assist this project.

The installation will be a four to five-day exercise and will be carried out by the end of next month.
