Animal Sanctuary Seeks Help

Animal Sanctuary Seeks Help

It is said to be the only animal sanctuary in the country and The Greater Good Foundation needs your help.

They have a soft spot for dogs that are on death row at the Lautoka City Council Pound, strays, and those injured and left abandoned.

Even abandoned puppies and those pregnant canines are given warmth and a place they can call home.

The foundation is a registered non-profit charity based in Lautoka that operates the only sanctuary for animals in Fiji.

Since 2013, they have rescued and accepted dogs from desperate situations, even those that were old and riddled with disease.

Such is the generosity and kindness of two young ladies, the Foundation’s project manager Ghazala Buksh and volunteer Kamni Narayan.

They currently have more than 55 rescued dogs under their care.

The Sanctuary is both a ‘No-Kill and No-Refusal Safe Place’ for animals in dire need of help.

Ms Buksh said no-refusal because they accept any animal in dire need of help and have never refused to help an animal in need.

No-Kill, because no dog has ever been put down because of lack of space, high costs or behavioural issues.

The foundation is developing a permanent Sanctuary on a 14-acre farm along the Highway in Tavarau, Ba and welcomes sponsors for this much-needed project.

Ms Buksh said Global Electrical of Ba and LongRun were two companies that have stepped forward to assist with the project and for which the Foundation was grateful for.

“The Greater Good Foundation aims to open a 24/7 clinic at the sanctuary and run a mobile clinic.”

The Foundation could be found on Facebook@greatergoodfiji or contacted on telephone 864 0200 for information or to donate towards the care of their animals.
