Nayarabale Youths Venture Onto New Land Utilisation

The youths of Nayarabale are known for their rural million dollar yaqona farms. And now they will be known for a new venture with a strong focus  on environment sustainability.

The youths are now branching out into forest restoration.

Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Jitendra Singh applauded the youths for their continuous effort to better use their land.

“We are very pleased with what the villagers and the youths have done in regard to farming practices here,” Mr Singh said.

“And we are gathered here to advocate on how land degradation can be stopped.”

More than 200 farmers from the three provinces in the North were at Nayarabale to commemorate World Day in Combat Desertification also partook in the event on Friday.

“And today (yesterday) we can see these farmers here using modern technology to prevent soil erosion and other forms of degradation,” Mr Singh said.

“On this 100 acre land they will be planting 1000 pineapple plants, 100 sandalwood trees and another 100 native trees, today (June 16, 2017).

The Nayarabale Youth Group leader Iliesa Vakaruru said this was an initiative they were taking on board so they could utilise barren land.

Narayabale is one of the 13 villages in the Vaturova district.

The other villages are Korotasere, Lekutulevu, Nakuku, Domokavu, Seyavaci, Vanuavou, Korotasere, Vaturamulo, Wavu, Nakarobo, Vatukuca and Culuga.

Mr Vakaruru had on the same note called on youths and landowners in the country to protect and utilise their land.
