After a thorough analysis and consultations with divisional Police commanders, several Community Police Posts around the country have been  closed, Police chief of operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said.

He said they had to close them because they were not needed in that area.

However, the resources from these closed Police Posts were diverted to new Posts in areas where they were needed.

“After having these community posts removed, measures were put in place to continue to provide the same policing service in the same communities,” ACP Tudravu said.

After receiving recent statistics on the rise in the number of crimes, ACP Tudravu said they were formulating strategies to counter them.

“Apart from that we would like to state to members of the community that we are seriously looking into the matter and they do not have to worry,” ACP Tudravu said.

“All our efforts now in terms of the resources given, manpower and Police patrol will be done.

“We are coming down hard on them as we step up again and we will continue to lessen the crimes in the concerned areas.”

ACP Tudravu could not yet confirm the number of community Police posts which had been closed and which were now open as a result. However, he confirmed that several had been closed down.
