A Hybrid Prius collided with an oncoming vehicle which was making its way to Suva from Pacific Harbour at around 10 am yesterday.

The accident happened at Namuka-i-Lau in Wailekutu, Lami.

An eyewitness, Marika Yalimaiwai said he was attending the church service when he saw the Hybrid Prius being driven in an unusual manner.

“The vehicle was not stable. It seemed the driver had lost control,” Mr Yalimaiwai said.

He added: “The car went to the other lane and it missed a Viti minivan. Then it collided with the Nissan Navara which was travelling towards Suva.”

Liuqing  Xu, the driver of the Nissan Navara, said it was a very nervous moment for him as a driver.

“I was driving in my lane when the Hybrid Prius came onto mine. My vehicle then ended up in the drain,” he said.

“There is a lot of damage sustained by my vehicle.”

National Fire Authority was also present at the scene as the collision caused a small fire.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro, confirmed that the accident had occurred. She could not confirm whether the driver was drunk.

The driver though was taken to the Lami Police Station.

Meanwhile, a man in his 20s died after he was allegedly bumped by a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old at Valley Road Sigatoka.

The incident happened before midnight and it is alleged the suspect also failed to stop following the accident.
