Match-winner Samuela Kautoga first title in six years, Rewa first FACT since 2011

Samuela Kautoga scored the winner for Rewa as the ‘Delta Tigers’ finally hoisted the prestigious Vodafone Fiji FACT title after six years.

The defender scored from a powerful header in the 32nd minute in the 1-0 win over defending champions Nadi at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Kautoga dedicated the win to his family, fans and the Rewa team for having faith in him.

“It is after six years that I have won a tournament with a district team and this is so special to me.

“I want to dedicate the win to my family and fans of the Rewa team,”Kautoga said.

He played a leading role in defence preventing Nadi striker Napolioni Qasevakatini from scoring.

“I knew I would score when I had that opportunity because I had faith in God,” Kautoga said.

The 30-year-old Togalevu villager from Ba last won a major tournament with Labasa in 2011. He had been playing for Amicale Football Club in Vanuatu before joining Rewa this year.

“I want to make a point this year after  being away from the local scene for some time. I’m so happy to help Rewa win,”Kautoga said.

“I’m looking forward to guide Rewa to more victories.”

Rewa coach Marika Rodu praised Kautoga for his excellent performance.

“Kautoga is a man of the moment for us and he is a very good player. His experience helped us to win,”Rodu said.

“We are proud of winning the first Fiji Football Association-sanctioned tournament of the year.

“We aim to get more trophies in our cabinet and this is just the start.

“We’ve won the FACT and the focus shifts to the Vodafone Premier League, INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament and the Courts Inter-District Championship,”Rodu said.

Rewa received $15,000 while Nadi took $4000 as runners-up.
