Currently there are two clinker vessels in the country.According to Carpenters Shipping supervisor Arvind Gounder, the two vessels are the Maipo River and Tasman Sea.

“The Maipo River has 27,000 tons of clinker and the Tasman Sea has 26,850 tons,” he said.

Currently Mr Gounder said the Maipo River was unloading at the Suva Port and the Tasman Sea was unloading at anchorage at the Suva Harbour.

He said they did not know when the Maipo River would complete its unloading.

Meanwhile in an earlier interview with the Pacific Cement Limited (PCL) spokesman, Mr Sowani Tuidrola he confirmed the clinkers were for them.

He said they were now paying a daily a penalty fee of $11,000 towards the Maipo River as it had been in the country beyond its time limit.

The vessel he said was supposed to complete its unloading within seven days of its arrival.

“It arrived in middle April,” he said.

He said the difficulties faced by the Maipo River were beyond their control.

Mr Tuidrola said they hoped the Maipo River would complete unloading this week for the Tasman Sea to berth.
