Fiji Correction Services underwent the required Defensive Driving Course workshop with the Land Transport Authority on Thursday.

The workshop, apart from improving the driver’s knowledge and skills, was also an opportunity to re-emphasise the responsibility held by drivers while on the road.

LTA manager for road safety education, Veronica Malani, said the training also reminded drivers about the lives of their passengers and they must always keep that in mind when driving.

“All the driver’s need to appreciate and be aware of the fact they are sharing the road with other road users,” Mrs Malani said.

“The life of one individual is precious to us. You cannot replace someone’s life if it is lost through a road accident,” she said.

“Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility and we must all work together to ensure your Safety on the Road is paramount to us.

“When FCS approached us to conduct this training for their drivers we saw this as a privilege to be able to use this platform to advocate Road Safety to the drivers of the Corrections Services.”

The workshop was held at the FCS coffee shop, Korovou, Suva, with 40 participants from the 14 centres.

The one-day workshop was organised by FCS and facilitated by LTA.
