Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar says there is going to be a lot of changes in the ministry.

She made the remarks while welcoming the 2017-2018 national Budget.

“The ministry’s plan for 2017/2018 fiscal year is to see how best we can improve the services we provide,” Ms Akbar said:

“The pay increase within the ministry will definitely uplift the morale of staff,” he said.

She said that Fiji can now expect more happy nurses and doctors serving them.

“The pay increase comes up with high expectations. More nurses and doctors will be deployed to increase the doctor-patient or nurse-patient’s ratio.

“One of the major setbacks in our ministry has been the patients – medical specialist ratio and this will be addressed once we have recruited more health personnel’s in the workforce.”

Ms Akbar also said that the ministry was receiving a lot of concerns on nurse practitioners therefore an increase in their salary is definitely passed.

“They were paid normal nurse’s salary before but now they will get an increase of up to 74 per cent.”
