Pacific sprint queen Toea Wisil of Papua New Guinea was content after she won gold in the senior womens 200 metres event during the Oceania Athletics Championship yesterday.

Wisil clocked 23.24seconds followed by Australians Larissa Pastermastsky (23.24) and Jessica Peris (24.06).

She also won gold in the 100metres.

The 29-year old was encouraged with her performance. She is closer to qualifying for the World Championship in London in August.

“I am happy with my win today as I managed to get record a time close to the qualifying time which is very satisfying,” Wisil said.

“I will be heading to Australia tomorrow before heading to Europe with my aim to compete in the world champs which will be a great challenge for me.

“For the London event I need to clock 11.26secs in the 100m and 23.10 in the 200m. I’m confident I can meet the qualifying times.”
