It was an overwhelming and emotional moment for Jone Bogidrau when he won gold in the shot put wheelchair Paralympic event during the Oceania Athletics Championship yesterday.

The 30-year old threw a distance of 7.52 metres and was grateful for the opportunity to represent Fiji.

“I feel really excited to be representing my country for the first time which is a great achievement for me,” Bogidrau said.

“I would like to thank Almighty God for giving me the courage to participate and to my mother for always encouraging me to striving for the best.

“It was a difficult journey as I had to travel from Nasigatoka, Rewa to come all the way to the ANZ Stadium to train but I guess it has all paid off well.

“ I would like thank Athletics Fiji and the Fiji Sports Council for providing us with proper facilities and I am looking forward to compete in the upcoming games this year.”
