Lautoka ended a 13-year drought when they hammered defending champions Nadi 5-0 in the final of the 62nd Fiji Gujarati Sports Inter-district championship (IDC) at Churchill Park yesterday.

Nadi were outclassed in all facets of play as the home side dominated the game.

Abdullah Bhamji, son of the late legendary Ba and Fiji striker Farouk Janeman, was the stalwart of the Lautoka side and controlled play from midfield and even scoring one himself.

What happened: The first spell was a see-saw event with both sides trying to get a grip of the match.

Lautoka soon emerged as the more determined team and their continuous attacks saw Bhamji slip a nice pass to striker Jitendra Lala for the Blues to lead 1-0 at halftime.

Lautoka up the tempo in the second spell and this left Nadi struggling.

Bhamji, Lala, Darshan Kapadia and Prasund Lal then started creating havoc among the Nadi defence.

Abdullah fired a rocket shot that left Nabi grasping in thin air.

Nuiaman Patel scored the third and with the 3-0 lead, there was no looking back.

Further goals from Prasund Lal and replacement Mitesh Narsey saw the Lautoka scoop the win.

In the semifinals, Lautoka outshone the capital city Suva side 4-0 while Nadi accounted for Ba 2-1.
