The Labasa football side beat Dreketi 2-1 to gain three points in the Vodafone Premier League competition at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.

What happened: As neighbours, both teams started strongly as they looked for opportunities to score early.

But strong defence from both teams kept the scores at nil-all.

Half time:  Labasa 0-0 Dreketi

Labasa opened their account in the 57th minute when Antonio Tuivuna scored.

This boosted the Babasiga Lions as they went all out on attack. In the 65th minute it was striker Ratu Anare who extended their lead to 2-0. Dreketi refused to give up. They kept fighting back and in the 71th minute Sakiusa Rakoso pulled one back.

Comments: Labasa coach Roneel Lal said: “They did well but they could have performed better. There were a lot of opportunities which we missed. We would need to work on our finishing and our strikers need to wake up.

Dreketi manager Mukesh Kumar said: “The boys did well but we will continue to improve.”
