Expect mouthwatering smoked meat varieties from Niu Grillz at the Thurston Food and Music Festival in two weeks’ time.

They are amongst food stalls at the Ministry of Health Foodies Lane during the event. Niu Grillz owner, Sikipio Fihaki, said he wanted to create something new (Niu) and different in Fiji, especially for the local market so he came up with ‘meat smoking’.

He said ‘meat smoking’ is a longer version of barbecue (BBQ). There are two methods of smoking – cold smoke and hot smoke.

“I’ve always had passion for food and the way it should be cooked and eaten and one of the many talents I had adopted in the kitchen was from my parents,” he said.

The Suva-based business has two staff members and has been in operation since 2015. They specialise in smoked beef, pork, chicken and fish amongst other varieties.

“To be part of this event is a privilege because we will be placed with some of the best in the business in Fiji through food and music,” he said. His advice to those still undecided about buying tickets: “All I can say is that you’re going to miss out on one of the first and biggest events to happen in the most iconic locations in Fiji, Thurston Gardens.”

You can check them out on their official Niu Grillz Facebook page for more information. The Thurston Food and Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 15 at Thurston Garden, Suva.

About 1500 people are expected to attend the festival and the first major event by Knox Entertainment. Tickets are on sale at the RoC Café, Ginger Kitchen at the Fiji Museum, and Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

Admission is free for children under 12 years.
