The students of Natusara Primary School, in Kadavu have a reason to celebrate scooping 19 awards and are now $1975 richer.

This year’s National Poster Competition Awards is something they will forerever remember as they returned to their island with all the main awards for the Eastern Division.

School teacher, Helen Prakash said the school was quite unique because of its isolation.

“There is no village community near the boarding school and it’s situated in the Eastern part of Ono Island, Kadavu.”

She said most students are from neighbouring islands of Bulia and Dravuni. It is the first time they have taken part in a competition of this magnitude.

Ms Prakash said the support from the community and parents has been immense as it showed as parents turned up for the event yesterday.

For Year 6 student, Salote Durubalavu of Natusara Primary School, her drawing of a woman and how she was spending her money won  her the second prize for her category in the Eastern Division

2000 students nationwide from 150 schools nationwide took part in the competition.

The prize money was from a pool of donors: Reserve Bank of Fiji, Bank of Baroda, HFC Bank, Westpac, and ANZ

Parents and teachers were part of the event held at Jai Narayan College hall on Monday.

Prizes included trophies and certificates.
