Former national and Suva coach Gurjit Singh has been appointed as head of the coaching panel for the Labasa football team.

He will guide Labasa in the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants (B.O.G) Tournament which kicks off next Friday at Subrail Park.

Singh will work with current Labasa soccer coach Ronil Lal; however it is not known whether Singh will remain with Labasa throughout the season.

Known as the ‘guru’, Gurjit Singh has given many memorable victories to teams like Navua, Nadi, Suva and Labasa.

Singh, who is the most experienced coach in the country, has returned after taking a break with his family in the United States.

His last assignment with the Whites was at last year’s Inter District Championship and more recently he assisted Rewa as the team’s technical director at the 2017 OFC Champions League in Tahiti.

Speaking to Fiji FA media Singh said he was here to help the northerners.

“I was approached by the Labasa officials and I am happy to assist them,” Singh said.

He said he would do his best to make a strong and formidable team for the INKK Mobile B.O.G.

Labasa Football Association president Rayaz Khan said they were happy to have Singh in their coaching panel.

“We are very much happy to have a coach of that caliber to assist us and I am sure he will do wonders for our fans, “Khan said.

Khan said Singh would help coach Ronil Lal in their campaign.

The Babasiga Lions will start their campaign against Suva on July 14 at 7.30pm.
