Just three months of selling at the Lautoka market, 30-year-old Mere Lubi enjoys it.

The mother of four said they lived on a leased land and her husband had been planting vegetables and root crops.

“I sell whatever my husband plants and I must admit that I’m earning good money,” she said.

She said they ate most of the harvest and she decided to sell for the education needs of the children and basic necessities for their home.

Ms Lubi said she was also selling to her neighbours.

At the market she said she was able to get her own customers and more were coming to her table as she was selling fresh and quality products from their farm.

“People are attracted to fresh and quality products.”

She said selling at the market was very exciting especially when she was meeting new customers and the help she was getting from other market vendors.

Before becoming a market vendor she was staying home and she had never regretted her decision.

She said every vendor around her is selling the same crops, but the advantage she had was that she was selling fresh crops and vegetables from their farm.

According to Ms Lubi she buys from farmers only when the stock from their farm was not enough.

She said they and also a small poultry farm and they were breeding the layers.

“I sell eggs too and my customers just loved them.”

She said some of them had made orders for the eggs and had managed to supply the orders placed.

Now she plans to have bigger stall in the market and grow her poultry business.
