Tamanitokula Grateful To Lead

Luisa Cagi Tamanitokula is ready to lead the Vodafone Fijians football team to the Oceania Women Under-19 Championship in Ngahue, Auckland in New Zealand on July 11-24.

The Nailaga, Ba native was surprised when her name was announced as captain in Ba last night.

“I was not expecting this and I’m very humble and I want to thank the team management for believing in me,”Tamanitoakula said.

“Given the opportunity to lead this team is huge given the fact this is the first time for me to captain a national team.”

The Year 13 student of AD Patel College has also given her word that the team would do the country proud.

“Be rest assured that we will do our country proud and fly the flag of our nation with pride,” she said.

Tamanitokula is one of the experience players in the team having played in the 2015 Pacific Games.

“I know they will do Fiji proud, we in the best shape to produce positive results,” she added.

Tamanitokula will be assisted by Cecelia Siteri Nainima.

Meanwhile, Fiji Football president Rajesh Patel reminded the team on the task ahead.

“We have done everything that we can for you. The onus is on you to go out there and do your country proud, as we are proud to be Fijians,” Patel added.

Fiji play their first game against Tonga on Monday, New Zealand on Friday, Samoa on July 17 and Papua New Guinea on July 21.
