The University of Fiji has confirmed that more than 2394 graduates including 109 medical students have graduated from the university since 2005.

“As a developing nation, Fiji requires a sustainable skilled and professional workforce,” UoF Vice Chancellor Professor Prem Misir said during the university’s open day at their Saweni campus in Lautoka, yesterday.

“And the university is proud of its work ready graduates, constantly occupying the full rage at the world of work in Fiji and internationally.

“We at the university are proud that some of our students are now holding key positions in both private and public sectors and are equally competitive with students graduating from other universities.

In its first set of graduates this year, 203 had graduated in April, while the second graduation is in December.

Professor Misir said for semester one, 2017, the University of Fiji has a record of 2212 registered students, a figure that represents the highest registered for this university since its opening.

“The university is still hopeful to reach its target of 3000 students (continuing and new) for semester by the second semester this year,” he said.

“The university has a centre for iTaukei studies, renewable energy, SMART technologies, and centre for Climate Change Energy, Environmental and Sustainable Development (CCCEESD).

“The centre for renewable energy is collaboration between the University of Fiji, University of Alicante, Spain and the University of Papua New Guinea.”

Professor Misir said these centres added tremendous value to the internationalisation process of the university and on its qualification.
