The Samabula Senior Citizens Home had their wish list delivered yesterday from a group of Gandhi Memorial High School old scholars.

The group presented according to the SSCH wish list two washing machines, one water blaster, and 20 litre electric urn, 57 blankets, bed sheets, pillow cases and cutleries.

Group representative, Reshmi Mala said the idea came about after chatting amongst themselves about raising funds and giving something back to the community.

Ms Mala said the group had raised $4000 from two months of fundraising.

“The Home had given us their wish list and we were thinking of only buying food stuff but we ended up buying everything on the list,” Ms Mala said.

“It’s a very proud moment for all of us giving something back and it was an emotional moment for all of us also,” she said.

The group is made up of 40 former scholars (1996-1998) and contributions also came from as far as America, New Zealand, and Australia.

About 15 members and their families showed up for the visit in Samabula.

“This is definitely the first of the many other community visits we will be doing,” said Ms Mala.
