The Nadogo Central College (NCC) Under-16 stood their ground to beat Khalsa College 10-6 in the Northern Secondary Schools Rugby Union competition at All Saints Secondary School ground last Saturday.

NCC scored the first try through Mosese Dunadamu in the 10th minute while Solomon Tuqa added the extras for a 7-0 lead. Khalsa College fought hard and responded with a penalty kick to earn their three points as they trail 7-3 at halftime.

Khalsa College secured the first points in the second half through a penalty as they edged closer 7-6 but Tuqa sealed NCC’s win with a penalty.

NCC coach Isei Matakicakau said there was still room for improvement.

“I applaud the boys for a good show but I feel there is still room for improvement,” Matakicakau said.

“We have two weeks to prepare before our next game with a team from the Deans Tier One in the Eastern zone.”

He added that they would need to work on their fitness and other areas of play before their next match.

Khalsa College coach Peniasi Tagitagivalu said this was their first year to take part in rugby.

“We are happy that they have at least reached the final and I applaud them for this,” he added.
