While making his address during the launching, chief guest, Savusavu Tourism Association and Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Karl Smith said their town needed to maintain its ‘Go Green’ tradition.

“Savusavu needs to grow in a way that creates the most benefits for our people and ensuring that our town stays green, healthy and clean,” Mr Smith said.

“This is how we increase visitors into our region and town. This is how we create greater rewards for the people of Savusavu.”

Using Nadi Town as an example, he said the uncontrolled growth led to the town being a shadow of what it once was.

“Having said this one can only acknowledge with pride the initiative taken by Savusavu Town Council and the organising committee to not wait for Government who can only do so much and do not necessarily share our priorities,” Mr Smith said

“In my view, it is also time that the four entities – Savusavu Tourism Association, Chamber of Commerce, Savusavu Town Council and the carnival committee adopted a closer and more consultative relationship, prioritising, and harmonising strategies and plans to promote and market Savusavu.”

Five queens would be contesting for the crown. They are; Miss Savusavu Town Council Losalini Baikeirewa, Miss Public Service Commission Evelyn Simpson, Miss Shah Construction Group of Companies Lusiana Mulo, Miss Hot Springs Hotel Kirisitiana Uluwai and Miss Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Ofaine Maiyaro .
