The Valesasa Transportation Company Limited (VTCL) is now providing a door step service to maritime islands far from Government Jetties.

VTCL manager Ilaitia Caginavanua said for Kadavu the two jetties were at Kavala and Vunisea.

“The ferry services only the people near to the two jetties,” Mr Caginavanua said.

He said their vessel MV Uluinabukelevu was serving the people of Babaceva, Nabukelevu and Ono in Kadavu.”These places are far from the two jetties in Kadavu.”

Currently the MV Uluinabukelevu was in Kadavu and would be back in Suva on today.

On Thursday he said the vessel would make a trip to Gau.

“This is not as franchise trip.”

He said the jetty at Gau was at Qarani and sometimes served by one of the ferries.

For the Gau trip he said they would be visiting the villages far from the jetty – Somosomo, Nawaikama, Nukuloa, Levukaigau, Lovu, Vadravadra, Yadua, Lamiti, Malawai, Nacavanadi and Vanuaso.

He   said they were actually doing a door step service to these villages.

On the franchise scheme he said all ship-owners were waiting as they had made their submission on the routes they wanted to serve.

He said currently they were had been issued temporary franchise scheme contracts.
