The Fijian Under-19 is gearing up for the 2017 International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 World Cup qualifier on August 8-16 in Samoa.

Team manager Ponijese Saulekaleka said preparations are on track for the 2018 U19 World Cup in New Zealand.

“I think preparations are going on very well and the boys have been training for the past six weeks for the World Cup qualifiers in Samoa next month,” Saulekaleka said.

“Our aim is to qualify for the World Cup in New Zealand next year.

“We want to do well and come out winners against the rest.

“We are expecting the competition to be tough as we will have to play six games in 50 overs in eight days”

“The coaching team and the trainers had been doing a great job in trying to work on their fitness. The players’ response towards the training have been quiet impressive as they have shown a lot of commitment and dedication.”

Saulekaleka confirmed there will be 14 players in the travelling squad.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Education as half of the squad are students.

“I think what we need right now is cricket community to support the boys before they depart for Samoa.”
