The allocation of $350,000 for special production in the 2017-2018 national budget receives two thumbs up.

This money has been set aside for Fijian authors who may want to publish their books but do not have funds or even aspiring Fijian movie makers who may want to make a movie but do not have initial capital.

This is great news for every young Fijian who aspires to make a mark in the artistic sphere.

Often a lot of focus goes on channelling our young into white collar jobs, but not enough support had previously been given to our aspiring artists, movie makers and authors.

With the right support, Fiji too can have its own JK Rowling (author of Harry Potter Series), Steven Spielberg (Hollywood’s best known director and one of the wealthiest filmmakers in the world) and  Pablo Picasso (A Spaniard, he was one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century).

There is nothing stopping young Fijians from excelling in these areas as authors, film-makers and artists. They need to have faith in themselves and pursue their dreams.

The Budget initiative is designed to help our people develop their talents. Such an allocation is also an indication to the young Fijians that Government has faith in them to break into the national  and international stage.

These are not just hollow words. This is Government putting its money where its mouth is, putting its trust and faith that with the right assistance, our youth can do wonders.

This is a remarkable incentive and our young people should grab this opportunity.

Aspiring movie makers, authors and artists must come out, access the fund and live their dreams.

Make the most of the trust FijiFirst Government has put in you. Step outside of your comfort zone and make your mark.

The various allocations in the 2017-2018 Budget aim at empowering Fijian youths.

Never before has any Government put in this much effort and invested so much money in providing a leg-up to young Fijians.

This is investing in our future in a real sense. And, this is real investment across different sectors. This is good news.
