The newly launched 36 foot fiberglass boat, 36 Viwa will be used by the famous TV series, Survivor that is being produced now in the Yasawa group.

There is a special significance about this vessel as it is the first model for the newly established iTaukei owned Silverwaters Fibreglass Boats and Products.

Managing director Frank Hamagushi said his business model is all about empowering youth and up skilling the underprivileged local’s in particular rural youths.

Ratu Epenisa Cakobau had officiated at the launch.

Mr Hamagushi said the Siverwaters Fiberglass business was a great initiative from a native to help in giving back to the community and also upskilling and providing employment to unskilled youth in the community.IMG_1506

Originally from Ovea, Bau, Tailevu, Mr Hamagushi said they were committed to training youths beyond building boats with the hope to improve the daily lives of youths and contribute towards the development of their own village.

“The business has helped some families financially and also provided hands on learning to the youths,” Mr Hamagushi said.

“The 2×200 horsepower boat is a multipurpose vessel suitable for tourism, game fishing, and water transportation,” he said.

Boat foreman, Robert Stolz said, 36 Viwa was designed over a bowl of grog with Mr Hamagushi.

Getting it right has always been a challenge for Mr Stolz in his boat building career.

The boat will be handed over to the Survivor team next week.
