The NRL star arrived in the country on Monday night with his family to recuperate after the Test matches against the British & Irish Lions.

Williams, who played for New Zealand in the 2013 World Cup in England, said Pacific sides like the Vodafone Fijian Bati, Toa Samoa, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea and Tonga will be the teams to beat when the World Cup gets underway in October.

“The Pacific teams are going to be great and it’s always a big occasion and Fiji has strong boys and has a strong showing as well,” he said.

The Vodafone Bati made it to the 2008 and 2013 semifinals where they lost to Australia.
“Fiji always has a strong showing so as Samoa, and Cook Islands. They beat Samoa in the quarterfinals of the last World Cup,” William said.

GETTING OLD

The dual international said he is aiming to be part of the All Blacks squad to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

“It’s been really great there is always a lot of depth in New Zealand rugby. We have great coaches led by Steve Hansen hopefully for myself I can make it there. I’m a little bit old now.”

FIRST TIME

Williams was impressed with the reception they received at Nadi International Airport after they flew in from on a Fiji Airways flight.

“It was really good the people on the airplane and when we landed everyone have been really friendly,” he added.

“This is my first time in Fiji and worth my time off and I thought I just have a little holiday so I’m recovering for a week and then I’ll go back to training.”
