Town street crossing

Suresh Chand, Nadi

The steel railing presumably installed to curtail haphazard road crossing in front of Shop ‘N’ Save Supermarket on Sahu Khan Street in Nadi Town is useless in my view.

This place urgently needs a marked foot crossing overseen by police to ensure human and vehicular traffic move smoothly.

It is probably one of the most used crossing points on a daily basis in the tourist town.

So you are not going to block it but find an alternate convenient way to let pedestrians and traffic move without undue disturbance to anyone.

It is to be noted that no other place has this kind of barrier although haphazard crossing is happening all over the town.

I think we need to get our people educated in following proper road crossing manners at all times.

For if you don’t provide the needed foot crossings, people will cross anywhere.

Let me tell you that despite the railing on Sahu Khan Street haphazard crossing continues as before. This obviously indicates it is the preferred route for the people in town.

The current situation needs to be addressed before a tragic accident occurs.

Lovo pit

Joji Toronibau, Tunuloa

While on an errand to my traditional abode late this week, I find there are lots of pot holes and huge craters along the Natewa and Tunuloa stretch.

These pot holes are big enough to throw in some firewood and a lighter to start a lovo. The boulders or stones are already in the pit.

Government vehicles and public utilities do frequent this stretch.
