Secondary school teacher Shiu Kumar has built up a passion towards saving Fiji and other Pacific Islands from the impending climate change threats.

He is stepping up his fight against the root causes of climate change and any opportunity to do so he is on all hands on deck.

He uses every chance he gets to share information with his students at Ba Sanatan College and of course his friends and families.

He recently decided to put his thoughts on this subject to paper and send it to the “Your Views” column in the Fiji Sun.

The letter, titled Deadly Heat Wave was a winner and judged the Letter of the Week ending July 2, 2017.

Mr Kumar said he was over the moon with the win as not only was this his first win but it recognised his fight against climate change.

“I am a very big advocate on this and the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is a champion for the work he is doing.” Mr Kumar said.

“We have all got to get together to save mother earth,” he said.

“Otherwise smaller island states like Tuvalu will soon be below sea level.”

On Friday, Mr Kumar was handed his prize, a Philips Daily Collection Coffee Maker from Courts Ba Branch manager Amran Ali.
