The MV Brianna is still on its franchise trip to Upper Southern Lau.

Victoria Marine Limited manager shipping Captain Pita Colamoto said the MV Brianna left for its franchise trip on July 11 to Vanuavatu, Nayau, Lakeba, Oneata, Komo, Moce, Namuka and Kabara.

“The vessel is still in Lau,” he said.

He said when it returned the MV Brianna would leave for its franchise trip to Vanuabalavu – Yacata, Avea, Mavana, Lomaloma, Cikobia, Tuvuca and Cicia.

Captain Colamoto said their other ship the MV Sea Rakinio had went to Yasawa on its franchise trip July 11.

He said it left to Yalobi, Viwa, Nacula, Naisilisili, Navotua, Nabukerua, Yasawa-i-rara and Bikama. For the franchise trips he said they had made a commitment to serve the route or arranged for a replacement vessel.

He said they were thankful to the Government for the franchise trips especially when trips to these islands were usually unprofitable.

Meanwhile the Fiji Shipping Franchise Scheme is the shipping assistance provided by Government for shipping services in uneconomical shipping routes in the Maritime province.

The total assistance allocated by Government in the 2013 Budget was $1.5M

Cabinet Decision 23 of Jan 2013 – the administration of the Franchise Scheme be transferred to the Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utilities.
