Lomaivuna High School students’ hopes in making music their career is one step away from being a reality.

The Fiji National University Open Day on Friday was an opportunity for Lomaivuna students Stuart Takayawa and Sotiana Waibune to confirm their career path.

Stuart, of Lau and Sotiana of Cakaudrove took the opportunity to learn more about the musical courses offered at FNU and also try their hands on the instruments they are familiar with.

Stuart said he got his inspiration of music through church where he used to play and sing.

“From childhood, I had accompanied my family to church and that was where I learned about the music,” Stuart said.

“I was inspired by the instruments and singing in church and had taken interest since then but unfortunately, our high school did not offer any extra-curricular class in music,” he said.

“When I came to FNU for the open day, the music set up grabbed my interest and I instantly signed up for it because I want to continue with my passion for music and form my own band someday.”

Sotiana said her interest came from her family members who used to sing back home.

“I was inspired by my siblings and family members who used to play drums and sing along,” Sotiana said.

“I am also interested in doing the agriculture programme along with music so I could help my family on the farm, back home,” she said.
