The AFL Fiji women’s national team will face a tough pool in the 2017 AFL International Cup in Melbourne, Australia on August 5-19.

Fiji face defending champions Canada, Great Britain and newcomers Pakistan.

Captain Ilisapeci Vateitei said this year will be different because they will not be facing the same players when they go up against Canada and Great Britain.

“Our pool is really tough and we need to focus on basics and fitness,” Vateitei said.

“The players that we played against in 2014 are not the same players that we will be facing this year.

“It will be a whole different experience and we are expecting tough games.

“The weather will be a major factor for us because it will be cold in Melbourne. But I think we will manage because the girls just really want to go out there and do their best.”

Vateitei said the Fiji team will be going into this year’s competition with an advantage.

“Our squad is basically new because we only six players from the last International Cup,” she said.
