Students of Wainimala Secondary School say Fiji National University gave them the opportunity to narrow their career options.

Alifereti Robuli, 18, Kasa Muatabu, ,17, and Laisa Yabaki, 19, all from Wainimala in Naitasiri said they have now confirmed their career paths following their trip to the FNU open day held at FNU Nasinu Campus in Valelevu, Nasinu, on Friday.

Alifereti said he would take up the agriculture programme because that was what captured his interest.

“Agriculture is interesting because I am from a farming background,” Alifereti said.

“A tertiary qualification in the field will definitely boost my knowledge, my yields and upgrade my source of living,” he said.

“Dollar value and more money more utilising land and livestock is what I mean.”

Kasa on the other hand said her interest was in agriculture because back in their village, they are taught about farming and planting since childhood.

“Farming is our main source of income for us and I want to study agriculture so that I could know better farming skills and get better  returns,” Kasa said.

Laisa said her interest in agriculture was because that was the field she was brought up in.

“I grew up watching my family working in farms and I want to do the same.

“Back in the village, we all plant root crops and vegetables to cater for all of us and also sell in the market to buy groceries,” Laisa said.

“I found out that FNU provides us with a better and detailed programme with hands on training for us,” she said.
