Wife Laments Over Husband’s Death

Ab hume roz ashirwaad kon dayi (Who will bless me everyday now?)’.

These were the words of mourning Tangamma Gounder, wife of Muthu Sami Gounder, 69, of Tovata, 8 Miles in Nasinu yesterday.

Mr Gounder passed away on Tuesday, July 18, after a short illness.

Hundreds turned up to pay their final respects to the late Mr Gounder yesterday.

They included senior staff leaders staff from the C.J. Patel group o companies, where he was a longtime and much respected staff member.

He was employed by CJ Patel for over 37 years until he was called to rest.

Mr Gounder was born on March 1, 1948 in Nagoro, Rakiraki.

He is survived by his wife, son Muni Nadan, two daughters Usha Nair and Lata Gounder along with six grandchildren.

The funeral gathering was held at his residence followed by a cremation at the Dignified Crematorium in Nakasi.

Mr Gounder’s grandson, Sagar Gounder said he was the best aja (grandfather).

“Whenever I ask aja (grandfather) anything, he would give it me even if it was expensive.

“He always take my side if my dad scolds me and on his last day he was with me, just me and him, traveling alone to hospital when he died in my arms while I was driving.

“That moment which I can never forget but I’m happy that we always been close and on the last moment,” Sagar said.

A relative of Mr Gounder said he was a very humble and helpful person.

“He was very loving and caring,” the relative said.

“He never used to get angry at us or shout because he simply was friendly and always joked around with everyone.

“He was like our father and we respected him a lot,” the relative said.
