What is a Duty Concession?

A duty concession is a rebate given by government towards the importation of certain commodities as an incentive towards selected economic sectors that are subjected to budget policies.

This is one of the most common forms of incentive that government normally offers to respective stakeholders, to bring down the prices of the selected commodities as part of its development policies..

The new concession means that government sacrificed its revenue to meet some of its policy initiatives.

In the 2017/2018 budget announcement, the Minister of Economy, highlighted the various duty concession offered for various commodities.

How can I get the actual price change?

The Commission conducts a survey immediately after the budget announcement on the duty reduction items, and prepares a list of all items affected and the calculated price after duty reduction. This list is available at the Commission’s office at 42 Gorrie Street, Suva for anyone wanting it as reference. The new price will apply for all new consignments cleared after the budget announcements.

Advice to consumers

Please report to the Commission on 3372178 or 8921991 of any prices exceeding the above list. The Commission will investigate such cases and advise the complainant accordingly on the outcome. The consumers of Fiji must ensure that unscrupulous traders do not engage in these prohibited conducts by disadvantaging the consumer.
