The Fiji Rugby Union has today confirmed the appointment of Senirusi Seruvakula as the Head Coach for the team that will represent Fiji at the National Rugby Championship.

Seruvakula comes to the position with wide knowledge and experience following three successful years as the Telecom Fiji Warriors Coach.

His qualifications include being a Level 3 World Rugby Accredited Coach, IRB Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Accredited Coach and is currently in the process of completing the Australian Rugby Union Level 3 Coaching Course.

FRU Chief Executive Officer, Mr John O’Connor said that following extensive interviews with all the applicants which were conducted by the FRU and World Rugby and after further consultations with World Rugby they had selected the best applicant for the job.

“We are pleased that he has accepted the job. He will be responsible in guiding the team to international success and contribute to the leadership of the FRU High Performance Program. This is an opportunity for him to work with and develop Fiji’s current and future elite players.”

The 2017 National Rugby Championship is in the fourth season of Australia’s National Rugby Championship. It involves nine professional rugby union teams, one more than the previous year, with eight teams from Australia and one team from Fiji.

Fiji’s roster will include 30 locally-based players and the FRU has begun to look for a permanent home base for the side, which will play all of its home games in Fiji.

The expansion will mean that each NRC side will return to the eight-week format of the first two iterations, with each team having a bye.

The tournament will commence on 2 September and will run for nine weeks. Fiji will play eight games, with four home and four away games with the grand final scheduled for 11 November.
