Education can transform individuals and societies from being underdeveloped to being developed.    These were the words of Montfort Brothers Superior General Brother John Kallarackal when addressing the students of the vocational college for boys at Montfort Boys Town in Veisari yesterday.

The Montfort Brothers are mainly engaged in the education mission of the Catholic Church and run more than 260 institutions in different parts of the world. This includes general education vocational training and education of the physically challenged.

Brother John is in Fiji for his official visit after six years to all Montfort institutions in the country.

He noticed significant growth in the institution since his last visit in 2011.

“Not only in terms of the number of students which has gone up which means have we been more mindful of this education,” he said.

“Secondly I also found out that the quality of education at MBT in Fiji has grown.”

He said quality education not only meant the type of teaching in schools but that which can be imparted in a family or in a society, as well.

“We believe in the potential of our youths around the world. And MBT is a household name.”

Brother John has been visiting Montfort institutions in the region. Last week he was in Tonga.

His next stops here are Xavier College in Ba, St Thomas High School in Lautoka and Montfort Technical Institute in Savusavu.

Brother John is originally from India.
