French police are investigating the allegations of involuntary violence and sexual harassment involving Fijian rugby players Waisea Nayacalevu and Josaia Raisuqe (Wini).

According to the La Parisien, while in police custody the players have denied the allegations.

“The two men had nearly two grams of alcohol per litre of blood in their veins,” stresses a source close to the case.

The players have also indicated that they were drunk and have little memory of the alleged incident.

Raisuqe who is also alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim told investigators that he was not in a state to do such an act while Nayacalevu said he could not recall whether he was involved in a fist fight with the alleged victim’s friends.

The players lawyer Thomas Klotz said that they were drunk but denied the allegations.

“This case will be argued before the tribunal and not by the media,” he said.

In a statement, Stade Francais called for social media users to exercise caution in their views ‘in the absence of official information’.

The French club also said they condemned ‘with the utmost firmness all forms of violence and in particular violence against women’. Stade added that they will ‘of course take appropriate measures’ if the allegations are proved to be true.
