Close to 70 members of the Nasareci Methodist Church in Waiyevo, Taveuni sacrificed their Saturday to clean up the Waiyevo Health Centre.

Church elder Alipate Salele said the voluntary work aligned with Methodist Church of Fiji’s Christian Citizenship and Social Services week, which was last week.

“We decided to clean up this facility because this is where people turn up to when they are sick and it’s our way of assisting the health officers, doctors and nurses who work here,” Mr Salele said.

“They have done so much for us and we wanted to help them as well.”

Children, young adults and parents swept, weeded and cleaned the facility and the compound.

“We should help maintain not only our homes but our surroundings as well,” he said.

“Healthy living is a concept that should not be taken lightly but to be applied on a daily basis.”

He said this move by the Methodist of Fiji was one which brought members of the community and tightened relationships amongst individuals.

“Let’s not be selfish, always be considerate of others. While it’s important to take care of ourselves, let us not forget to also work for the greater good,” he said.

The church has a congregation of 120 members.
