The Nabou Green Energy Limited power plant will be officially opened by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama tomorrow.

Mr Bainimarama will be joined by other industry stakeholders to witness the event.

It is understood that the plant is the first of its kind in the South Pacific.

Chief executive officer Jun Hyung Lee said this is their first Independent Power Producer project.

The Korean company has teamed up with Fiji Pine Limited.

The vision of the company is to make the world a better place by generating clean energy through the biomass plant.

“Our power supply is 12 Megawatts, where we can cover all of Nadi and partially in Sigatoka area,” he said.

“This generates six percent of Fiji’s power supply. We will continuously supply FEA, and this plant can supply 24 hours, seven days a week except on the maintenance period.”

The 12 MW Biomass power plant was completed in 28 months.

Supply of wood chips

The pine trees from the Fiji Pine Limited, mainly the non-commercial valued logs, will be used as wood chips.

Along with other residue from the mills, they will be put through a furnace to produce steam that will power the turbine.
