Soccer Victory Celebrations Turn Fatal

A man returning home from a celebration died tragically yesterday morning when the vehicle he was travelling in collided head-on with a company shuttle bus.

Monish Shavneel Kumar, 23, who was in the front passenger seat, was travelling with three of his friends.

He died instantly upon impact, Police confirmed.

The accident happened along Yasiyasi Road in Nadera, Nasinu.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, one of the friends told the Fiji Sun that they were returning home from a celebratory gathering at a friend’s place to mark their team’s recent knockout round victory in the Nasinu Football League.

He was also in the vehicle prior to the accident but was dropped off first.

Mr Kumar was employed in the accounts department at Shop N Save Supermarket and was the eldest of four siblings in his family.

It is believed that one of the passengers remains in critical condition when this edition went to press last night.

The two other passengers in the backseat of the car, Kaushal Kumar and Kishan Chandra are still hospitalised.

An autopsy of the body was being conducted.

The family of the deceased were still in shock when approached for a comment. They also declined to disclose any information.

The accident now raises the road death toll to 53.
