Flying Fijians tight head prop Kalivati Tawake vows to improve on handling skills and ball carries as they prepare for the Australian National Rugby Championship next month.

The Nacula, Yasawa, native made his debut for the Vodafone Flying Fijians in the June-July tests and believes the knowledge and experience he gained from the Flying Fijians will assist him in the preparation.

“I thank God for everything he has provided me this year and his guidance in my rugby career,” Tawake said.

“It was a good experience for me being with the Vodafone Flying Fijians team and NRC is another new battle.

“I’m looking forward to utilising the knowledge I gained from the June-July tests,” he said.

Tawake who is also a member of Jack’s Suva team said he would work on his weaknesses.

“I will improve my scrummaging, ball handling skills and ball carrying,” he said.

Head coach Senirusi Seruvakula said in this first week of camp they were working on clarity.

“There are a lot of new faces in camp so in these three days camp we want to build on our clarity from our system.

“We are also looking at their fitness,” Seruvakula said.

Fiji plays Brisbane City first at Ballymore on September 2 and Melbourne Rising in the second round on September 9 at Harlequin Oval in Melbourne.

They will then play first their home game two weeks later in round three on September 16 when they host the NSW Country Eagles at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The other teams to make the trip to Fiji this year will be defending champions Perth Spirit in Round 4 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on September 23, Queensland Country in round eight on October 21 at Churchill Park, Lautoka and the Sydney Rays (Round 9) at the ANZ Stadium on October 28.
