Police yesterday continued their search for a missing man who allegedly jumped off the Rewa Bridge in Nausori on Tuesday afternoon.

The man is believed to be in his 60s.

People at the scene who wished to remain anonymous said the man lived in Nausori with relatives. It is alleged that the man may have tried to commit suicide.

The man was seen by passers-by jumping off the bridge.

Police said they had searched for the body since Tuesday soon after they were alerted but have not found the man.

It is understood that the incident happened at about 3pm.

Police officers at the scene confirmed that the man was diagnosed with a sickness and that his wife was admitted in hospital.

According to Lifeline Fiji 40 per cent of the 2900 callers through their Lifeline Fiji in the last six months were seriously considering suicide.

Police statistics from January to July show that there were 59 cases for attempted suicide compared to 55 for the same period last year.
