Ba Farmers Arrested In Early Morning Drug Raid

Three men, alleged to be drug farmers were arrested by Police in an early Tuesday morning raid in Yakete in the interior of Ba.

The men were asleep in the blue tarpaulin tent when Police surrounded their camp at around 3.30am.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Western Deputy Divisional Police Commander Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdul Khan reported the officers had to walk for some distance in the dark cold morning to get to the farm.

Items seized from inside the tent were more than 1600 stems ranging from 20 centimetres to 30cm and a container containing loose seeds and leaves believed to be marijuana.

The Ba Police officers searched the farm and also uprooted 9800 plants believed to be marijuana ranging from 10 centimetres to 1.5 metres tall.

Fertilisers and farming equipment were also seized.

“This is right in the interior of Ba and I thank the officers for their hard effort in ensuring that these drugs don’t reach the streets,” SP Khan said.

“The perpetrators are being taken to task,” he said.

Ms Naisoro said the three suspects were currently being processed at Ba Police Station and were expected to appear at Ba Magistrate yesterday.
