Chand loves to share his views

Suresh Chand loves to interpret public views through the Letters to the Editor section.

His letter titled: ‘Town Street crossing’ earned him a letter of the week prize.

Mr Chand highlighted the steel railing presumably installed to curtail haphazard road crossing in front of Shop ‘N’ Save Supermarket on Sahu Khan Street in Nadi town. He reckons that it serves no purpose.

He said education is needed above all else.

“If you don’t provide foot crossings, pedestrians will cross anywhere,” said Mr Chand.

The 61-year-old Vatiyaka, Ba, native found his best friend ‘writing’ over the last six years.

“I started writing in 2011 when I retired from my first work which was as a local government officer for Nadi Town Council where I worked for 36 years.”

He was attached to the finance department most of his life at the council.

“I normally would read all the letters in the dailies and I found some interesting articles. I asked myself ‘why shouldn’t have an opinion of my own?

“That’s when I started doing that. Whenever I get time I write, I will continue to write and I thank Fiji Sun for acknowledging all the letter writers good work.”

He is currently an accounts clerk at Pratap Civil and Asphalt Quarries Limited in Waqadra, Nadi.

He has lived in Nadi for the past 40 years.

He won a Philips portable radio with a CD player from Courts. The handover was done at Courts, Nadi Market Road on Tuesday.
