The Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College of Nadi walked away with a bronze award in their debut at the Generation Global Conference in the Oceania region.

The institution attained the bronze award in the first round of the conference through teleconferencing on August 9.

More than 180,000 students from the ages of 12-17 are part of this programme globally.

Generation Global Coordinator Fiona Dwinger said, “We are delighted to tell you that Sangam SKM College has been awarded a Generation Global Bronze Award following our recent certification meeting.

“We enjoyed reviewing your school’s application. Congratulations again on getting a Bronze Award.

“This is a really great achievement and we hope you will continue to participate in GenG activities this year.”

Sangam SKM co-ordinator Shelvin Reddy said, “It was a wonderful achievement made by the students in this particular event.”

He said the sole purpose of this conference was to help students to shape the future through dialogue.

“Generation Global prepares students, through giving them the skills and experiences they need to navigate differences in a peaceful way,” Mr Reddy said.

The students participated in the inaugural Global dialogue with their peers from SMAN 10 Padang-Indonesia, Jakarta.

The topic for the first conference was “Essentials of Dialogues”.

“Here students were able to discuss all the aspects of dialogues through their communities and countries point of views with all relevant examples and explanations,” Mr Reddy said.

In order to participate in this conference, the school had to set up a video conference room, with high bandwidth internet access.

“Students had opportunities to explore questions on what they think helps people to live successfully with diversity, what some of the challenges can be and how to overcome those challenges. Students from both schools shared thoughtful, nuanced responses,” Mr Reddy said.

Generation Global is a Tony Blair Faith Foundation (TBFF) programme now carried out by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, based in the United Kingdom.

Generation Global programme prepares students from schools all around the world, giving them the skills and experience they need to navigate differences in a peaceful way.

“We work across the world delivering education programmes to help prevent religious conflict and extremism,” the Gen Global website said.
