Namosi defended the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge Trophy after defeating Rewa 41-29 in the final challenge at Thomson Park in Navua yesterday.

 

What Happened:

In the 3rd minute Namosi’s Nemani Talemaitoga drew first blood with a try which was converted by fullback Viliame Maiono, 7-0.

In the 10th minute Alivereti Veitokani nailed the first points for Rewa from a penalty, 7-3.

Namosi applied the pressure resulting in Rewa’s Sakenasa Rokotuinidau yellow carded in the 17th minute.  Namosi utilised the opportunity which led to their second try to prop Atunaisa Maiono, 12-3.

Namosi extended their lead in the 21st  minute after winger Asesela Ratudamu scored a try converted by Nemani Raiwalu, 19-3.

In the 24th minute a penalty try was awarded to Rewa, 19-10.

Namosi’s winger Meli Rusa was sent to the sin-bin after a deliberate knock on.

Mosese Voka scored Namosi’s fourth try in the 28th minute, Namosi 24-10 Rewa.

Peni Delai scored their fifth try the 37th minute, 29-10.

In the dying seconds of the first half, Namosi’s openside flanker Voka was yellow carded for a tip tackle. This resulted in a try to Rewa’s wing Paula Naqarani.

Half time: Namosi 29 – 15 Rewa

In the 44th minute Namosi’s prop Alivereti Nabukawaqa scored their sixth try converted by Maiono, 36-15.  In the 65th minute a third try was awarded to Rewa’s halfback Netava Koroisau converted by Veitokani, 36-22.

In the 73rd minute a try was awarded to Namosi’s Viliame Rogose, 41-22.

In the 77th minute Josaia Laulauvaki scored a try for Rewa, converted by Veitokani.

Star Play: Namosi’s prop Alivereti Nabukawaqa was the man of the match.

Rewa Coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata; “I am thankful to the boys for their effort despite falling short in the final.

“We came in confident but ended up defending almost three quarters of the game. We are looking forward to taking part in the Skipper Cup competition next year.”
