More than 500 people living in the Namata and Matadawa Village in Tailevu are now benefiting from the new 1.3 kilometre access road constructed by the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA).

FRA acting chief executive Robert Sen said the new access road would improve the quality of life by providing a number of social and economic benefits to the people living in the two villages.

The access to Matadawa Village is in the Tailevu province, approximately 1 kilometre along Namata Road from the end of Raralevu Road.

“We believe that this new access road will significantly impact their quality of life by providing better transportation as well as improving their livelihood opportunities,” Mr Sen said.

“The villagers will no longer need to travel by sea.”

Mr Sen said the project was completed within three months.

The commencement date was April 20, 2017 and the completion date was July 22, 2017.

“The FRA wishes to thank our hardworking contractor K Lal and Sons Investment (Fiji) Ltd for a job well done and to both the villages for their patience and support during the construction works,” he said.

The project was under the Construction of Rural Roads under Day Works- Namata Access Village Road, Natila Access Road (Logani-Seba Road) and Sawanikula Korovou Road led by Mr Johari Abdullah (Engineer to Contract), Moshin Hussain (Engineer’s Assistant) and Ropate Sokoiwasa (Construction Supervisor).

Stage two has been put out on tender where the access road will be upgraded to gravelled rural road.

The tender closes at 2:00pm on September 7.

Works on the Natila Access Road is currently in progress and works on the Sawanikula Road will start by the end of this month.
