Team Effort Key For RKS U17

Team effort, sacrifice and dedication paid off for Ratu Kadavulevu School Under-17 side after defeating Lelean Memorial School 16-13 in the Coke Zero Deans final at ANZ Stadium yesterday.

RKS received a cheque of $2500 while LMS settled for $1200.

RKS head coach Jone Magiti said it was the players’ sacrifice, dedication and hard work that has finally paid off.

“I salute the players. We know LMS will be tough but these players stuck to the plan and they gave their 100 per cent.

“They sacrificed, dedicated themselves in training and with the support of the parents and the old boys enabled us to produce positive results.

“This is a team effort,” Magiti said.

LMS started off well in the first half being awarded the first penalty successfully kicked by first five-eighth Joji Voli and RKS quickly replied with an equaliser through Sireli Maqala.

The Davuilevu team applied pressure and scored their first try through lock Donasiano Vulivuli. RKS scored their first try through left wing Lekima Vakatawatoqi which saw the two locked 8-8 at halftime. The boys from Delainakaikai regrouped in the second half kicking their second penalty through Maqala and vice-captain Alivereti Loaloa scoring their second try while LMS only managed a try n the second half through right centre Etonia Bainivalu.

LMS head coach Ulaiasi Vakatawakoula was impressed with the performance.

“Our aim was to win the final but it was unfortunate we fell short.”
