Namotomoto, Nadi native Rusiate Waqa scored twice as the Nadi Aviators won the first round of the Vodafone Inter-Zone Championship beating Lautoka Crusades 20-16 at the Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

The three tries were scored by Waqa his first in the 5th minute, followed by Eremodo Tuni, Etuate Guvalu and conversion by Timoci Namotukula as they led 16-0 at halftime.

In the second spell Crusades kicked a penalty through fullback Savenaca Buresova 16-2.

The Aviators were reduced to 12 men when Lawrence Gock was sin-binned for a high tackle offence.

The Crusades through fullback Vereti Bukavesi scored a try in the corner, 16 – 6.

Seven minutes later Waqa scored his second try in the corner to extend their lead 20 -6.

Buresova scored his second try and was converted by Kelemedi Kabacake, 20-10.

Aviators Sikeli Qauqau was sin binned for punching a player.

Vakacegu Tabakibau of the Crusades scored the last try.

In the other matches (men): Ra Roosters 22–20 Nasinu Titans, Suva Eagles – Nadroga Knights.

Women: Nadi Aviators 24 – 12 Lautoka Crusades, Ra Roosters 12 – 12 Nasinu Titans, Suva Eagles 30–12 Nadroga Knights.

U20: Nadi Aviators 18 – 10 Lautoka Crusades, Ra Roosters 16 – 22 Nasinu Titans, Suva Eagles – Nadroga Knights.
